10 Things to Look Forward to this Fall

Ohio in the fall is my absolute favorite.  However, after last year's Siberian Tundra of a winter and this year's fun summer, my excitement for all things pumpkin and scarves is a little tempered this year.  I know as soon as the leaves change, I'll be loving it, but for right now, I find myself wishing for just one more month of all swimming, BBQ's, and all things hot.

So to get more into the spirit of the harvest, I've compiled a list of 10 things to look forward to this fall.  Because, whether I like it, it's coming.  And it's coming soon.

So here you go:

10 Things to Look Forward to this Fall:

1.  Scarves, Boots, and Sweaters:  I'm definitely a layers kind of gal.  Give me a t-shirt and jeans and I give you a big ole yawn.  But add a scarf, boots, and a cardigan to that, and I'm in fashion heaven.  I guess my wardrobe is incredibly too blah for summer.  I'm especially excited to wear these:

which I bought off of Instagram (who knew you could do that, right???) from Bargain Finds for a killer price.  They are used, but look brand new.  I'm rocking them today with my new hoodie from Ann Taylor Loft and I'm in comfy cozy Fall fashion heaven.

2.  The Leaves Changing:  The Fall in Ohio is truly breathtaking.  It is so incredible gorgeous.  The yellows and reds and oranges are so vibrant, and trees are everywhere so the entire state looks like one beautiful fall watercolor painting.  Just look at this picture of our backyard last year:

It's a feast for the eyes and I can't wait.

3.  The Leaves Falling:  Before I had kids, I would have never looked forward to this... but last year, watching Logan jump in the giant leaf piles in the backyard was seriously magical.  I can't wait to see this look:

Again this year!

4.  Football:  What can I say, The Dews love to watch football.  Especially college football, which is already in full swing.  Although our teams aren't off to a totally fantastic start, we will still be watching and cheering them on for every game.  There's always something to watch on TV on Saturdays, Sundays, Monday nights, and Thursday nights when it's football season!  I'm also excited to hopefully catch a few local high school games, which should be fun too.

5.  Hot Chocolate and Special Toast:  For those of you who don't know what special toast is, let me enlighten you.  It's toast made in the oven, under the broiler.  And it's amazing.  It goes especially well with hot chocolate (Stephen's is the best!) which you can't really drink when it's hot outside.  But when it gets cold on those October/November nights there is absolutely nothing better than cuddling up on the couch with a delicious piece of special toast, a cup of hot chocolate, and watching TV.

Speaking of TV...

6.  TV Shows Come Back:  One of the things I don't like about Summer is how there aren't any new episodes of our favorite shows.  But that gives me something to look forward to come September.  I can't wait to indulge in watching new episodes of New Girl, The Goldbergs, The Big Bang Theory, The Middle, Modern Family, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.  As you can see, we like comedies, and are so excited for our favorite shows to return to us!

7.  Pumpkining:  It's a tradition in our family to make a big to-do of going to get pumpkins to carve for Halloween.  Read all about it here.  Although I probably won't make it back to California this year, there are tons of Ohio pumpkin patch options that I'm really looking forward to!  We can always go to this patch we visited last year:

8.  My Birthday:  I'm not one of those boo birds who doesn't like their birthday, like some people I know.  I have always loved celebrating my birthday, and it's something that I look forward to every year.  Daniel likes to tease me that the entire month of November I try to get everything that I want because "It's birthday month!" and I really go hard when "It's birthday week!"  What can I say, any excuse to get my way, right?

9.  Holidays:  Who doesn't love stuffing their face with those you love on Thanksgiving and dressing up in silly costumes and begging for candy on Halloween, right?  Well I know I do.  I'm especially excited this year because there's a chance Daniel's whole family will be in town for Thanksgiving, which would be the first time in 5 (6?) years.  I would just love to get all 6 cousins running around together!  As for Halloween, Logan has been asking to be Lion-O from the Thundercats this year, and I just can't wait to see what I come up with.  Stay tuned!

10.  Black Friday:  Yes, we are one of those crazy people who stay up all night and wait in those long lines for a great deal.  We go every year, and it's actually become one of my favorite traditions.  We always get the kids one toy from our late night adventures, and to me it symbolizes the start of the Christmas season.  Still in Fall though, that's why it makes this list!

So there you have it!  Actually just typing this list has me more and more excited.  What's your favorite part of Fall??
