Being from Northern California, I grew up going to the coast a lot. Some of my best memories were made there. Dancing on the beach with friends, roasting marshmallows around a bonfire, playing beach volleyball, running from the waves, building sand castles, etc. So there is a small part of me that is very sad that my kids won't have any of those memories growing up all the way over here in land-locked Ohio. However... a little hope was restored when I learned that Lake Erie, of which we only live an hour or so away, has some fabulous beaches. For the last weekend my parents were here it seemed like the perfect outing, to bring the whole trip full circle.
While it was certainly no California Beach, Headlands Beach State Park, really hit on a lot of the things I love about the beach. There was sand. There was that cool beach breeze. There was waves, sort of. They were piddily little things but they were there. There was room to run. There were beautiful scenic views. It had that "beach" feeling. I was satisfied. It was a fun day.
Without further adieu-
