From my Back Steps

Our new house has an incredibly big, beautiful backyard.  It's mostly grass and trees and it makes me happy just to sit and look at it when no one else is around.

But when my family is out there, it becomes even more beautiful, and my heart nearly bursts with happiness to watch them.

It's full of moments like this:

"Higher, Daddy!"

"Even higher, Daddy!"

"Ok, Daddy, not that high this time!"

And Reagan and I take it all in from the back steps.

This summer the backyard will host treasure hunts and nature walks.  Birthday parties and backyard barbecues and picnics.  Bubbles and sprinklers and side walk chalk.  Maybe even a few first steps from Miss Reagan.  I'm glad I've got a front row seat on the back steps.

In the years to come there will be many football games on the grass and basketball games in the driveway.  I'm sure Logan will learn to throw a fastball out there on the grass.  There will be bonfires at the fire pit.  One day the kids will pose for prom pictures by the big trees.  There might even be a first kiss or a broken heart in this backyard.  And I'll still be smiling and taking it all in from the back steps.

There's nothing that I love more than watching my babies grow.  There's no where I'd rather be than on my back steps taking it all in.
