Open the Curtains

One of the things that sold me on our new house was the windows. This house has absolutely beautiful, large windows in every room that flood every inch of the house in gorgeous natural light. I just loved how happy and inviting the house seemed.

After we moved in, however, one of the first things we did was put up curtains in every room. Why, you ask? We live on a very busy street, and without curtains, at night everyone in Warren, OH would be able to see our every move. So it does make sense, at night. But during the day we kept them closed too, just out of habit and laziness. I had completely taken away my favorite thing about my house, simply because I chose not to open the curtains.

It's been very dreary and cold here this winter, which I think has been making everyone in Northeast Ohio feel a little down in the dumps. After a rough morning with the kids I could feel my mood starting to deteriorate, when it dawned on me... I should open the curtains and let some light in. I opened every curtain on the main floor and it was like everything was automatically better!! It's amazing what a little change can do for your mood and perspective.

So it is with life, I suppose. I get into the habit of thinking about what is wrong with my life and how difficult my struggles are. But recently, I've become more aware of some of the challenges and pains those around me are facing, even some of the people closest to me that I love dearly. It has been like opening the curtains of my life. Suddenly what I'm going through seems easy, and I find it easier to concentrate on my many blessings instead of what I think is lacking.

I am so blessed to have all that I have. I need to remember to keep the curtains open to enjoy all the light I have in my life.

  1. I hope I don't mess up your great blogs by posting this comment, but reading this I am reminded of a song I grew up with. It was sung by none other than Pebbles, and I am pretty sure Bam Bam helped out as well, but the chorus was "Let the sun shine in, face it with a grin, open up your heart and let the sun shine in!" I haven't thought about that song in a long time, and you are so right, we all need to enjoy the light in our lives! Thank you for your wonderful blogs!!! <3
