To my favorite 3 year old...

Dear Logan,

Today you are three.  It's hard to believe that just 1,095 short days ago you joined our family and changed our lives forever.  Those days have filled my life with more joy than I ever thought possible.  Those days have been filled with a lot of park visits, kissed boo-boos, ball games, and super hero battles.

In the last year, you have filled my ears with tons of stories, jokes, songs, and "But I want to!"s.  And though these words upon words upon words sometimes drive me crazy, deep down inside I love them all and know that someday I will miss hearing your cute little voice all day long.

In the last year, we have been on so many adventures.  We've been on boats and planes and trains.  We've seen elephants and lions and tigers and bears.  Oh my!!  We've gone to the circus and the farm and the zoo and the museum and everywhere in between.

In the last year, you've grown up so much!  You've gone from hardly talking at all to talking my ear off.  You've gone from knowing a few letters to reading a few words.  You've gone from counting to three to simple addition and subtraction. You've gone from an only child to a big brother, and a great one at that.  You've gone from being a follower to being a leader.

Logan, I want to give you the world.  I hope you are enjoying your childhood.  I know I'm having a blast watching you learn and grown.  But it's not always about fun and games. You are learning your boundaries.  You are crossing some and respecting others.  You are learning right from wrong.  You are learning to be nice and how to treat others.  You are succeeding.  You are growing.  Often you need reminding, but you are good at heart and want to make the good choice.  You are become a smart, kind, giving, loving little boy.

So here's to you, you big three year old!  You can ride a bike (with training wheels for now), sing the ABC's, count to 11 (after that it can sometimes get dicey), repeat almost any nursery rhyme (Little Bo Peep is your favorite), spell your name (and various other random words), and make friends with any person you meet.  On any given day you can save the world, ride in a rocket ship to the moon, cook me delicious soup, put on a rock concert, and still be home for dinner. You love to sing and dance and be the center of attention.   You truly light up a room.  You are smart, and funny, and brave, and caring.  I hope you use your talents for good.  I hope you become all you were meant to be.  I hope you never forget how much I love you and how good you are.  Logan, you (and Daddy and Reagan) are the biggest joy in my life.  I love you more than you'll ever know.

Happy Birthday.

Love,

Mommy
